Executive Director

Biography

Juliet holds a TU Delft-IHE Delft Master’s in Transport and Road Engineering, a Master’s in Geography, and a B.Sc. in Urban and Regional Planning. As a Housing Delivery and Urban Development Expert for UN-HABITAT, Juliet focused on leveraging affordable housing for African cities’ economic recovery during the pandemic. Under UNDP/Luxembourg Cooperation, played a pivotal role in formalizing informal settlements in Rundu, Namibia. Beyond academia, Juliet advocates for gender equality through Women in Distress Organisation offering leadership and advisory services on Gender-Based Violence through the NGO she Champions. An envoy to the United Nations ECOSOC and African Union ECOSOCC, a member UN-Habitat people-centered smart city guideline development, dedicated in empowering women, communities, fostering inclusivity, equity, and sustainable development.

Sonia Marygrace Ekwutosi Enekwechi

South East Coordinator

Biography

Sonia holds a bachelor’s degree in linguistics from the University of Lagos, a master’s in Public Administration, and currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Human Resources. She has over 12 years of experience in managing gender related programs. She is a visionary leader known for exceptional organizational skills at Women in Distress Organization. With a wealth of experience, she orchestrates our programs, ensuring seamless execution and alignment with our mission. Sonia is adept at strategic planning, coordinating diverse initiatives, and optimizing resources for maximum impact. She plays a vital support role, fostering collaboration among team members and external partners. Her dedication to organizational excellence elevates our programs, empowering women and youth facing adversity. Her leadership is pivotal in steering our initiatives towards sustainable and meaningful outcomes.

With B Sc. in Accounting from University of Abuja, skilled in strategic planning, community engagement and a deep commitment to advancing the organization’s goals in empowering women facing adversity. Angela is a proficient leader renowned for exceptional organizational skills within Women in Distress Organization. With a strong background in program development, she ensures seamless coordination and implementation of our initiatives. She plays a pivotal support role, overseeing projects with precision and aligning them with our mission. She excels in team collaboration, optimizing resources for impactful outcomes.  Angela is committed to organizational excellence, significantly contributes to the success of our programs, empowering women and youth. SC degree in Peace and Conflict resolution and 12 years of experience, she excels in planning, implementing, and overseeing projects. Peace has a proven track record of successful project delivery, demonstrating proficiency in coordinating diverse teams and ensuring project goals align with organizational objectives. She brings innovative solutions to project challenges and is committed to driving impactful outcomes. Peace’s expertise plays a pivotal role in executing Women in Distress Organization’s initiatives, ensuring our projects effectively address the needs of women and youth in challenging circumstances.

Emmanuel Rex Kenechukwu

Our Administrative Assistant, Emmanuel, is a highly organized professional who plays a key support role at Women in Distress Organization. With a meticulous approach to administrative tasks, he ensures seamless day-to-day operations. He has organizational skills and good in managing schedules, coordinating meetings, and maintaining efficient office processes. He is good at handling diverse responsibilities, providing crucial support to our team and contributing to the overall smooth functioning of our NGO. Emmanuel’s commitment to excellence greatly enhances the efficiency of our administrative operations, enabling us to focus on our core mission of empowering less privileged women.

We are empowered by a diverse and committed pool of volunteers who selflessly contribute their expertise across various domains. From legal professionals offering vital legal aid to medical practitioners providing crucial healthcare services, our volunteers form a dynamic network committed to our cause. Additionally, we have coordinators strategically placed in different regions we serve, acting as local liaisons to ensure our programs effectively reach those in need. A medical Doctor by training, provides Health and Wellness Support, support in organising health awareness programs and provide information on mental and physical health.Facilitate connections to healthcare providers and assist in wellness initiatives for women.

Responsibilities

Provides support in Crisis Intervention. Respond to immediate needs of women in crisis, provide information on shelters, and guide them to support resources. Liaise with emergency responders and other crisis support organizations.

Social media and Content Creation

Responsibilities

Develop content for WIDO’s social media platforms and website, including posts, articles, videos, and graphics. Engage with followers, respond to inquiries, and raise awareness about WIDO’s work.

Public Sector Engagement Coordinator

Responsibilities

Provides Support in public- partnership management. Monitoring and Evaluation Assistants, assist in tracking and evaluating WIDO programs and initiatives to ensure goals and outcomes are met. Provides support in Collecting and analyzing feedback from beneficiaries and stakeholders.

Research and Advocacy Assistants

Responsibilities

A social scientist by training Support research on women’s rights, gender equality, and social protection issues. Assist with drafting advocacy documents, reports, and presentations for stakeholders.

Responsibilities

She Organize and participate in outreach programs within communities to raise awareness on women’s rights and support services. Conduct surveys and assessments to understand community needs.

Responsibilities

Organize and promote fundraising events, campaigns, and online donation drives. Identify and engage potential donors, sponsors, and partners for WIDO initiatives

Responsibilities

Organize and participate in outreach programs within communities to raise awareness on women’s rights and support services. Conduct surveys and assessments to understand community needs.

Event Planning and Coordination

Responsibilities

Help plan and coordinate WIDO events, workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns. Manage event logistics, liaise with speakers, and handle on-the-ground operations during events.

Counseling Support Volunteers

Responsibilities

 General Advisor, provides emotional and psychological support to women in distress, with the support of licensed counsellors. Assist in organizing support group meetings and workshops

Legal Assistance and Rights Advocacy

Responsibilities

Provide basic legal information and assist in connecting women with legal aid services. Support WIDO’s advocacy for women’s rights by participating in campaigns and helping prepare legal materials.
