2000: Organization Founded

WIDO embarked on a transformative journey, marked by a pioneering vision and unwavering dedication to advancing women's rights and well-being globally

Inception And Commitment

The roots of our organization trace back to a pivotal moment when a group of african women, united by a shared commitment to creating positive change, came together to address the pressing issues faced by women worldwide. Their shared vision was to establish an organization that would stand as a beacon of hope, advocating for the rights of women, eliminating gender-based violence, and promoting human rights on a global scale.

Global Advocacy From Day One

From the very beginning, our organization set forth on a global mission. We recognized that the challenges faced by women transcended geographical boundaries, and our commitment extended beyond borders. Since our inception, we have tirelessly worked on a global scale, reaching out to communities, policymakers, and international bodies to eliminate gender-based violence, combat discrimination, and champion the cause of human rights.

Shaping The Narrative

The early years were instrumental in shaping the narrative of our advocacy. We actively engaged in awareness campaigns, educational initiatives, and collaborative efforts with like-minded organizations. By addressing the root causes of gender-based violence and discrimination, we sought to create lasting solutions and empower women to lead lives free from violence and inequality.

Commitment To Lasting Positive Change

The driving force behind our history is a deep-seated commitment to creating lasting positive change. We recognized that our advocacy goes beyond immediate interventions; It is about fostering a societal shift, challenging norms, and building a future where every woman can realize her full potential.

Global Operation

Operating globally, WIDO implements a multifaceted approach towards addressing key issues such as women’s and Girls’ rights, peace And security, economic empowerment, and combating domestic violence. Our initiatives align with international frameworks, including The United Nations, African Union (AU), International Human Rights Law (IHRL), and International Humanitarian Law (IHL). We recognize the interconnected nature of these challenges and believe in a holistic strategy for lasting impact.
